CrossFit YouFit Classic 2013.

There's a word that's been floating around in my cyberworld for bit now. I catch it here and there, but lately it's been totally in my face everywhere.

And that would be crossfit.

Although I've been reading a bit about crossfit on a few of my favourite blogs, I'm no expert by far and if you want the full deets, hop on over to visit the awesome Liz from 125. She's a Canadian chick who lives in Melbourne and is completely hardcore because she does crossfit herself. *I bow down*

After a twitter exchange with Liz a couple of weeks ago, I discovered that little ol' Mildura was hosting the Crossfit Youfit State of Origin Classic. Whaaa? Really? My home town? So, on Sunday Deon (my buff muscle man husband) and I took ourselves to Lock 11 where we sat. And watched. And were totally amazed. And, err, *slightly* intimated and suddenly felt quite weak and unfit compared to these athletes.

I had been thinking about crossfit for a while, and whether I should join up or not. Watching this put the fear of God into me totally inspired me and I absolutely loved the camaraderie between the athletes. Even when they'd finish an individual event, they'd go and cheer on the other athletes and support them until every last athlete had finished. Pretty cool.

These are 200kg tires. No words. Nice eye candy though.. *insert shifty eyes here*

Apart from the whole totally getting burnt thing (Mildura turned in some fiiine weather) I was so.damn.happy we went. Such a professionally run event with a great atmosphere. I only wish we could have made it on the Saturday as well (and bought bloody sunscreen with us. Amateur mistake!)

I kept watching this with two thoughts running through my mind. I want to do this. I think I can give it a shot and work on my strength and fitness level. Dude. You're out of your depth. Look at these people. They are MACHINES!

I don't know whether doing Crossfit would interfere with the running goals I have or compliment them. All I know is that after watching this amazing event, it's piqued my interest and I want to know more. Crossfit athletes. I bow down to your awesomeness!

  2. My little sister is cross-fit crazy...it scares the bejeezus out of me but im proud of her for doing it! I prefer the view of the outdoors cross-fitters from our cardio room at gym :P

  3. Argh, you are so lucky to have that view! The view from the treadies at our gym is terrible. A mirror or tvs angled so badly that you have to strain your neck to see them. I'm sure if I watched crossfitters it would give me more energy :P

  4. Liss, I think I'll keep watching from afar right now :P I'll keep concentrating on running, but may give this a go in the second half of the year.

  5. cross fit would absolutely compliment your running goals! It's not for me, I love lifting but after 4 babies I just feel that slow and controlled is a better fit but if you have a great instructor go for it!
