Last night, I was totes inspired to crank out my sewing machine again.
I was the prize-handing-out wench at our Interschool fashion awards, and I was absolutely blown away by the talent of some of these students. I mean, there were teenagers making cocktail dresses, recycling mens shirts into skirts and the most amazing cobalt and orange peplum dress, even one that had neon blue EL wires that lit up in the dark, and suddenly all I wanted to do was grab some fabric and get creative.
I did Textiles all the way to year 12, and thanks to my mum have a strong sewing background. However, I've pushed it to the side to concentrate on photography and painting, and the sewing machine has sat dormant for a few years now.
And now it's calling me from the depths of the linen press.
First project I'm thinking of? A quilt for my Little Lion. He'll graduate from his toddler bed to a single at Christmas, so he'll need a new one.
And then, I'll design a dress for me.
And then, maybe some new cushions in a funky fabric.
And then, possibly curtains for our shed house.
And then....
I'm so happy to have this spark again. Isn't it awesome when you find a zest for something that you once used to love?

Sounds good. I want to make some bunting for the babies room, but I'm not a sewer so lets see how I go!
ReplyDeleteOh good idea! Bunting is a great project to start on if you're not a sewer. There are some fab tutorials out there xx
