Checking In. A Fitness Pit Stop.

I thought it was time to check in and give an update on how I'm going fitness wise. I have to admit that I'm not happy where I am right now. After a couple of weeks off I'm struggling to find my groove and need to become more disciplined with myself. Hell, a few cocktails at a swim up bar and I've fallen off the wagon. Bad!

I'm feeling quite frustrated at the lack of running that's happening at the moment, and also a little apprehensive as I'm doing my first fun run this Sunday. I would have really liked to have a few more km's under my belt, but a cold kicked my ass on Saturday and I haven't had another chance to go out. Times like this I would KILL for a treadmill.

In an attempt to keep my fitness level up, I'm alternating using a stepper or elliptical trainer every second night, and trying to fit in a Jillian Michaels workout each day. Unfortunately though I feel the boredom of doing the same routines sinking in, and I'm now on the lookout for something different to spice it up a bit. Deon is a bit of an expert at these sorts of things and has printed me off all sorts of routines, but I'm the type of girl who needs something to watch to keep me engaged. I need someone like Jillian whipping my butt and motivating me. He doesn't get this. When I read out that the latest treadmills had Foxtel installed I was super excited, but he didn't give a damn. He's way more hard core than me, he likes high tempo music pumping and that's it to focus on each circuit he does! No distractions!

I'm tightening up again food wise. Winter has always been a bit of a danger zone for me- I crave carbs badly when I'm cold but I'm determined not to cave this time. Lots of protein and veggies instead and definitely keeping up my water intake, especially at work. It's so easy for me to forget to drink when I'm teaching. I've been baking a fair bit with Carter lately but I'm taking it into work to share for morning tea. From today, I'm cutting back on the sugar again.

So anyway, I'm on the lookout for something new. I'm pretty tempted to seriously look into Michelle Bridges 12 Week Body Transformation, not so much for weight loss but for changing my eating habits and toning up again. Has anyone done this? Is it worth it? I like the idea of different routines, goals, meal plans, challenges, etc. It seems quite comprehensive. Maybe I'll sign up for round 3 in August!

  1. Don't be too hard on yourself! Sounds like you're doing pretty well from here (especially compared to my woeful lack of exercise at the moment). It's all about balance, peaks and troughs x

  2. Oh gosh, I can identify with this. I gained a bit of weight last year (travelling = fattening) and then lost a fair bit of that before seriously injuring my back in February. I've been entirely sedentary since then and have stacked on the kilograms. I have gotten back into paleo eating but I know I need to eat cleaner on the weekends. As for exercise...it's not on the table until my back is better.

As for the MB challenge...my cousin just did it and lost 10kg. The bigger deal is that she lost 54cm off of her body. She gained muscle weight so really she lost closer to 16kg. She looks amazing from what I have been told!
Have you thought about doing healthier baking so you don't feel so much like you're missing out?

  4. Hey chickie! Thanks for the info on the Michelle Bridges program. By the sounds of it I think it would be perfect as I also want to build muscle tone. And yep, I'm changing the recipes up to make everything I bake healthier. Thanks lovely! xx

  5. Hi Rhi,

I just finished a round of 12WBT and it was really great.  I signed up mainly to support my cousin but found that I did really well myself!  I lost 13kg by following the food plan and running a few days per week.

The 12WBT exercise plan looks like it would be excellent for somebody like you, and in the forums people seemed to be happy and challenged by it.  There are programs for home, outdoors or the gym so you can tailor it to your own situation.  The food plan also includes ways to "boost" the meals if your goal is to build muscle rather than slim down.

The biggest compliment that I can give the program is that I never, ever went hungry.  That says it all, really!
