Cubby House Days.

As you've heard me whinge before, the weather has been leaving me in a serious funk. Cold.. raining.. windy.. and it's supposed to be Summer in a week. Anyhoo, it was pouring yesterday morning and I was racking my brain trying to come up with something different and exciting for the Little Lion since we were stuck inside again.

Then, it came to me. While he slept, I was going to make him....

...his very own cubby house! (Side note- I'm pretty erm.. uptight about my house. I like things clean and having everything in it's own place, so I've relaxed quite a bit to be able to pull everything apart to make a huge mess!)

He woke up, and I popped him down in the lounge...

..and as soon as he saw it, he ran his little legs off to get inside!

And yes, we were having a PJ day today as well. Rain, cubby houses, Pjs and toast slathered with honey.. what could be better?

He crawled inside his cubby house, giving me a big cheesy grin...

... then settled in to play with his toys while I chilled out and watched an episode of Gossip Girl.

Thanks Dani from Danimezza, you inspired me to do this from this post!

Point and Shoot #22- Tree

28th November- 10:05am- Dining Room

Last week I realised that I would have to make a few changes when putting up our Christmas Tree (and yes, I am a Christmas nut... I absolutely adore the silly season). The Little Lion is at a stage where nothing is off limits, and everything is to be used as a toy. (Side note- His favourite thing to play with at the moment? A plastic bit of tubing that fits on an air pump. Go figure.) I could just imagine how my glass baubles would end up when he got his tiny little hands on them.

So, goodbye lovely tall tree. I went to Target and picked up a cute little one that is just perfect to sit on our table, and even though I could only use half the decorations (sigh) it still looks fine. I have a purple and silver set, but I've gone with gold, burnt orange and copper this year.

What colours are on your Christmas Tree?

Weather, You Suck. Simple As That.

So, the weather has been SHITE lately. Drizzly, cold, and gale force winds (well, strong ones anyway.. I may have exaggerated there). It's extremely inconvenient for me (yes... I'm being selfish) as I don't particularly feel like battling the elements while trying to get through my running program. I signed up for the Couch to 5K, not EXTREME Couch to 5K!
After noticing that the rain wasn't going to disappear over the next week, I started to sulk to Deon about how I was never going to be able to run again and I was going to lose all my fitness and motivation and blah blah... when he calmly interrupted me and said why don't you just get the Elliptical Trainer out of the shed and train inside while the weather is bad.

I mentally smacked my self across the head. Of course I could. Why didn't I think of that before?

So, I've just finished a workout in the comfort of my own home while watching Teen Mom on MTV. Perfect. Weather, this doesn't mean you can slack off and continue this drizzly phase though. I would like some sunshine and blue skies soon please.

What I Wore...

So, we had our staff party last night, and despite the mosquitoes and constant rain I had a great time. It was a pretty casual affair, simply catered at a colleagues house, so I went with the following...

Button down denim dress from Dotti, sandals from Novo,  leather necklace with turquoise pendant and peacock bangle both from Sportsgirl.

Poor Deon couldn't make it in the end as he had to watch our sick Little Lion, but I made sure I drank enough wine for the two of us ;) Believe me when I tell you though, Christmas parties and early rising toddlers don't mix. At all. The munchkin is asleep now, so I might crawl off for a nap...

Quick Update.

Just a quick update, as the Little Lion is fairly clingy and I also have to get organsied for our staff Christmas party tonight. It looks like the cause of Carter's rash, ear infections and general sickness is most likely diet related, and I've been running around like a chicken with it's head cut off trying to organise allergy tests and appointments with nutritionists before the holidays. Madness.

More details soon...

Polly Dolly Challenge- Naughty and Nice

This week Dani from Danimezza has decided to go with the festive spirit just in time for all the Christmas parties (and my work one is tomorrow night, so perfect timing!) and has asked us what we would be wearing if we were Naughty or Nice...

The Chief Necklace
168 GBP - kabiri.co.uk
Daydream Nation necklaces »

Bronze Crystal Ring
88 EUR - pret-a-beaute.com
Oval jewelry »

Dior 'Addict' Ultra Gloss
$27 - nordstrom.com

dramatic black smokey eye

I'm absolutely loving both outfits and would wear each one in a heartbeat, but if pushed I would have to say the white dress just wins over the black. I must be a good girl at heart ;)

Just When You Think You're Winning...

You know how when things are going along amazingly you think 'Hey, Look at this! I'm winning at life! All my planets must be aligned and I must have got quite a bit of good karma stored in the bank after I rescued those blue tongue lizards off the road because damn life feels easy right now and I could run for 23 minutes and I'm just smiling all the time.'

Well, that's what I thought when Carter slept through for the fourth night in a row and I could bounce out of bed with enthusiasm. Now, he's developed a nasty rash all over his body and for the past two nights I've been up nearly every 2-3 hours soothing him as he cries and scratches his poor little body until it bleeds.

So, he's on medication to try and combat this awful rash. I'm slathering him in QV cream and sudocream and some sort of medication cream and I'm so over cream and medication and just want my Little Lion to be well. The sleep deprivation has gotten to me too. At 2pm I hit a wall and the business officer at work was trying to ask me exactly what I needed on the booklist, and what was the difference between a folio, sketchbook and a diary and did the students need all three.... and all I could do was shake my head in confusion and repeat Um, I'm sorry, I don't know... I just don't know...

Then I sent a fax upside down and cried. Professional Rhi had left the building.

By the end of the day I was like this:

Splattered on the floor, too tired to move. At least the Little Lion was smiling. He always thinks that Photobooth is a great game to play.

Busy Busy...

So, I'm home with the Little Lion today as my MIL was unable to watch him, and I'm thought I'd take advantage of the extra day off by completing a few of those damn annoying tasks that you HAVE to do but keep putting off and off an off...

Anyway, I started off by going for a run at 6:20 this morning. Yes. I am turning into one of those people. I really didn't want to, but I tried to go for a run at 6:30pm in the 30 degree heat a couple of days ago, and it was a major fail. I got wobbly knees, a huge headache and felt like the suns rays were physically pounding me across the face and shoulders with every step I took. After I staggered inside, I came to the glum conclusion that mornings were the way to go.

So, I pushed myself out of bed and got changed super quick so I couldn't change my mind. (Side note- I had already dreamed that I had got ready. I remember pulling my shorts on, brushing my teeth and tying my shoelaces, and I was so annoyed when I woke up and realised that I would have to do it all again but for real this time). Surprisingly, it wasn't too bad and I actually enjoyed the stillness of the morning. I managed a 23 minute run, which is my best so far.

Anyway, the rest of this day will be spent getting my car fully cleaned inside and out (translation: scrape the thick layer of locust bodies and guts off the windscreen and front of the car), get a quote to get my car fixed (did I mention I backed into Deon's huge ute? Oops...) and actually buy a locust radiator cover for my car. Which I should have done a few weeks ago.

But right now, I'm having a cup of tea.

Oh look! My nails are a sparkly raspberry pink glitter with a pearl line :)

Have a lovely day everyone xx

Point and Shoot #21- Picnic

Sunday 22nd November- 1pm- The Lock

We needed to get out of the house. It was a gorgeous warm Spring day, and Deon finally had some time off. I grabbed the opportunity to pack up my little family and head off down to the lock for a picnic.

Seriously, this is the first time we've gone on a picnic the whole year. Deon has been incredibly busy, and it's rained nearly every weekend the past couple of months.

The Little Lion thought it was fabulous. After chomping down his sandwich, chicken, sultanas and watermelon, he raced off to explore the area.

It was almost too much to take in for him. He'd run a few meters, stop, spin around then run the other way. Something would capture his attention...

...and he'd run after it (in this case, galahs)...

...and we would end up running after him.

After a couple of hours, Carter had exhausted himself. We packed up and headed home when he promptly fell asleep. Sometimes I find it so restricting living in a rural town but on days like today, I wouldn't change it for the world.

Trash the Dress?

Ok. So I was rummaging around in a box that I still hadn't unpacked (and was full of stuff that was just too hard to find spots for. You know, spare lightbulbs, a container missing a lid, fishing line.. you get what I mean) and I came across a dress I had started over two years ago and never finished. The reason I didn't finish? I was too lazy to do the hem. The HEM of all things. I was almost there, then gave up.

I put it on, to decide whether or not I should actually finish it now.

What do you think? I was thinking of hemming it just above the knee. I do love it, and I think the wedges look really cute with it, but I just don't know anymore! Is the print still OK? Argh, I can't make my mind up!

Painting with Carter.

While I was in Target yesterday, I decided to purchase Carter a set of Crayola poster paints. He's been playing with crayons and pencils for a while now, but I thought we could do something different this afternoon and get messy with some paint. However, we're house sitting mum's place at the moment and I didn't want paint to get all over her floor so I thought I'd change it up a little.

I started off by squirting a line of each colour on a sheet of A3 paper...

... and covered the entire sheet of paper with gladwrap, making sure to overlap the edges.

As soon as I placed it on the floor (on top of a larger piece of butcher's paper), Carter raced over to see what it was all about.

He squished the gladwrap between his fingers, moving the paint around and blending the colours together...

...then thought of a new technique...

...and decided to run through it instead. This is where is got slightly messy, and we ended up with tiny blue footprints through the lounge. Thank God for tiles and washable poster paint!

And.. the end result! I think next time we'll try with blobs of paint instead of stripes, and maybe on A4 paper as well.I think we'll be doing this outside next time too, just in case we have more blue footprints!

I'm pretty sure my little munchkin enjoyed it! Now that he's feeling a bit better he's been turbo charged this afternoon, and he's pulling apart my utensil draw as we speak. I'm sure he'll move onto the plastics cupboard next...
