Polly Dolly Challenge- Lady in Red

Ok, Ok, I know I've been slack. Really slack. I haven't done a Polly Dolly Challenge for two weeks. But, I'm back, and this week the challenge Danielle has set us is...

What would you wear if you were a Lady in Red?

Well, i've cheated a little here. I'm not really a fan of red, and I really think that it just doesn't suit me at all, especially now I have blonde hair. The lighter red I don't mind, the one that's a cross between candy apple and coral. So anyway, here's my creation...

I wanted something fresh, light and summery to embrace the warmer weather that we are (hopefully!) having soon. The top is adorable, and I paired it with some capri jeans and espadrilles to give me some height. Some tortoiseshell sunnies, lipgloss, bracelets and the cute little tote finish it off for me.

Point and Shoot #16

Monday 27th September- 2:30pm- Kitchen

It took a while, but I finally found a cookie recipe that tastes just like Subway cookies, courtesy of the Best Recipes website which can be found here. These are dark chocolate and macadamia cookies, and they're soft and chewy in the middle and crunchy on the outside... and HIGHLY addictive. Now, just one more won't hurt...

The Big Day.

Today, I have butterflies. It might sound silly, but I'm really, really nervous.

I'm a huge Collingwood supporter. Yes, I'm part of the Black and White Army. Yes, I put up with my husband calling me a bogan, and chastising me for following the team with the reputation for the most feral supporters.

Feral? Really?

But, I love them. Adore them. As a teenager, I was obsessed. Forget actors or musicians to swoon over, my most treasured possession was a personally signed Saverio Rocca poster that hung above my bed.

Today is the Grand Final. Carter has little Collingwood socks to wear. If we win, I'll be ecstatic. If we lose, well I'll try not to cry. I might just a little bit though.

Picnics.

Since it's the holidays, the little Lion and I decided to change things up and have a picnic on the floor for lunch yesterday.

We had:

Bite sized cheese sandwiches
Sultanas
Tomato
Dried apple
and Rice Milk to wash it all down.

Carter thought it was a huge success.

Reality Check.

Sometimes, I like to pretend I have it all sorted out. Sure, yesterday was a breeze where the little Lion ate all his breakfast, slept for three hours, snacked on new food, ate all his tea and was generally a delight all day. I felt like I was on top of things. What a perfect start to the holidays.

Today? Nightmare. Last night was a constant interruption between midnight and 4am. He refused to go back to sleep twice without a bottle. I muttered some obscenities under my breath. I caved. I dragged myself out of bed, exhausted this morning when he woke up. I consoled myself with the fact he would go back so sleep in a couple of hours so I could sit on the couch with a cup of tea, chuck on some Gossip Girl and recharge.

No such freaking luck. He won't sleep. He's beyond tired, and fighting me the whole way.

And, it's still cold.

And, Dane Swan didn't win the Brownlow.

Blegh.

Point and Shoot #15

Monday 20th September- 8:15am- Bedroom

A final print of my linocut. I'm only doing a series of 10, so if anyone is interested in a print, please email me! This one is winging it's way to the lovely Danielle at Danimezza.

Sunday 19th September- 6:30pm- Loungeroom

Deon and I discovered on Sunday that our cheeky little lion can now pull himself up onto our couch. We were watching TV when the stations changed channels. Confused, we looked over and discovered he'd made himself at home on the couch and was using the remote to channel surf. Now, I just hope that he's able to get himself down safely!

Pretty Pieces.

Deon picked up the two pieces of furniture I bought a couple of weeks ago, and to say I was a bit excited was an understatement. I love having new pieces in the house.

The first was a new entertainment unit, and one of the reasons I picked this particular unit was the fact that it had no glass. The little lion is constantly smacking his hands against the glass on our old one, but I have him foiled this time!

And yes, I'm watching Hellcats. Don't judge.

The second is a piece that I fell in love with instantly- a Balinese daybed. It fits perfectly in our bedroom, and it's the best place to curl up and read a book. When the sunlight streams through the windows, it's the warmest spot in the house.

I think I'll be spending quite a bit of time curled up there in the holidays while the little lion is napping. I have a whole stack of novels that have just arrived from The Book Depository, and I'm enjoying working my way through them!

Polly Dolly Challenge- Metallics

I missed last week's Polly Dolly, but I'm back again to create a set with a Metallics theme...

Greys, blacks and hot pinks with some sparkle. I do love a bit of sparkle. I think I need to update my wardrobe now since we're moving into the warmer weather (somewhat slowly, but we are getting there...) and pick a few more sparkly pieces.

Little Things.

It's another bleak, cold and dreary day here. This really isn't fair. Spring and sunshine, where are you? Why are you hiding from us? I feel so frustrated.

I've decided to inject some colour and sunshine into my life courtesy of the photographic artists from Flickr. It's not the same, but it's better than nothing.

Carter's sleep has gone to pieces. I don't know why. I'm too tired to try and figure out why. He keeps waking and won't go to sleep until he's had a bottle. I don't know what to do. He's eating and drinking enough during the day... what has gone wrong?

It's the last day of third term today. Crazy. At least if Carter has crappy nights I can nap during the day. I'm lining up lots of things to do, so I can finally reconnect with people and get some projects done. I want to create a little herb garden, so I don't have to rely on the dried ones in my pantry.

I'm also going to catch up on all the chick flick movies that I haven't been able to watch yet...Valentine's Day.. Dear John..Letter's to Juliet, etc. I've also been reading flat out, every single Jodi Picoult novel I can get my hands on. They de-stress me.

So anyway, that's enough blathering on from me. I'm hopefully picking up all my new furniture tomorrow (woot woot!) and I also hopefully be cheering on the mighty Pies in the Grand Final next weekend. Collingwood for Premiers!!

Printing and Inking.

It's so strange, I've never really been into printmaking before but this year I'm all about it. I seriously love it. My colleague/long lost twin sister Margaret has inspired me with all her beautiful little linocuts she does of objects from nature.. shells and leaves and so on. She doesn't know this yet, but I'm going to get her to print me up one she's just done of a spiky little seashell.. so precious.

Anyway, we have a new type of lino in where the tools glide through like butter. This has driven me to do a pretty challenging print.. and here is my result so far..

I guess you would call the image slightly vintage.. mostly flora with a bird in the bottom right hand corner. It's taken me three days of precision carving with very painful fingers, and sore knuckles from scraping them where I've already carved.

And, here I am awkwardly holding up my first print, or artist's proof. Still needs a bit of tweaking and some areas need carving a little deeper, but I'm pretty happy with it so far. I'll do a better shot when I have a perfect print!
