Happy Friday.

I heart Fridays. I used to always heart Fridays as it was the start of the weekend, but now I REALLY heart them. Would you like to know why?

We have a routine. Another couple who are great friends of ours come over. We decide what we're going to make (or order if we're feeling lazy) for tea. Previous weeks have included Indian, Tacos and home made pizzas. Tonight? Well, tonight will be roast chicken, vegies and a flourless chocolate cake for dessert. Extra yum.

We then indulge ourselves by watching the trashiest of all trashy TV- The Jersey Shore. I'm a sucker for trashy TV. I'm a reality TV junkie. Just love it.

After that, and after a bottle of wine or two, we crank the Wii up. We laugh ourselves silly busting out 70's moves to Ring My Bell on Just Dance. The night normally ends with the boys killing zombies and the girls flaking out on the couch, or we chuck on a movie. Good times.

What do Fridays mean to you?

Polly Dolly Challenge- Picnic

Danimezza

Another Thursday has rolled around, with another Polly Dolly Challenge! This time the lovely Miss Danielle has asked us- What would you wear to a picnic?

Being a boots fan, I couldn't resist selecting these gorgeous flat slouchy boots in grey. Funny enough, I have them in tan. I felt like going a bit preppy today, hence the Gap cardi, and paired it with some vintage distressed jeans. Nude lipgloss, the cute little zebra tank and a red necklace to pick up the red in the cardi. Couldn't forget the picnic basket and camera! Oh, and sunglasses are a MUST for me if we're outdoors.

I have to say, we're not big picnic people. There are some lovely spots around the river here, but we often take Carter to a cafe for breakfast and sit outside if it's a lovely sunny day.
Will definitely have to do that for Mother's Day this year.

If you'd like to play, head over to Danimezza!

My Precious Carter- 9 Months

Sorry for the delay Carter, I know this should have been done on the 24th!

My precious Carter,

Today, you are 9 months old.

Well my little man, it seems that you prefer to stand rather than sit now. You'll use anything in reach to pull yourself up and move around. You're becoming a lot steadier on your feet, and not falling on your bottom so much anymore!

You've learned how to wave hello and goodbye now you clever little monkey. We were so surprised when, out of the blue, you copied us and waved goodbye to Poppy. You love doing it now, and wave to everyone!

You experienced your first Easter! No chocolate for you sweetheart, but you did get some lovely presents from Aunty Summer.

Lunch now includes Vegemite toast with your vegetable purees. Boy, do you love your toast. Quite a bit of it ends up all over your face and on the floor, but you enjoy getting stuck into it! You're not so keen on the Weetbix though. Think we might have to give that one a miss, and try it again later on.

You can say 'mum mum' 'dad dad' and 'bub bub'. You love big hugs, songs like 'There were five in the bed' and you definitely LOVE your yoghurt. Jalna is your favourite so far.

Not long until you're 1 year old little munchkin. What new things will you bring us next month?

My little lion cub, I love you past the stars xx

Home Away From Home.

For two days out of every week, this is where you will find me.

This particular space is the gorgeous art/textiles room at the school I work at. When I first toured this little school, I was blown away. It was smaller than the art room at my previous school, but it had a warmth about it. And, the best part? It was stocked with so much stuff. I was in heaven.

See all those tubs behind me? They were jam packed with lovely things such as fabric dyes, oil pastels, derwents, glitter, buttons, feathers, pinking shears, paper in every colour and size.. the list goes on. If you're like me, you get extremely excited about stuff like this. You want to create something right away.

This room is my home away from home. I love being in this space. I bring my cuppa in, and teach, chat to the kids, and scribble. You feel at ease the moment you walk in.

Right now, I'm creating an example for my Prep- Grade 3 kids. We're doing monsters from Where the Wild Things Are. Which will include glitter, of course. Kids go nuts for glitter.

Thank you!

Lovely Days.

Good morning everyone!

I've just peeked outside and the sun is shining brightly. What a lovely weekend we've had so far, and the best part about it is that it hasn't ended yet. I know that I don't work Mondays, but to have Deon home with Carter and I today is special. I can't remember the last time he was able to spend two days in a row with us!

We've had some lovely friends around, laughed ourselves silly dancing to Just Dance on the Wii, and my beloved Pies had a magnificent win yesterday.

Even more exciting for me, I have a giveaway over at Danimezza! One lucky person will win a set of my wooden letter blocks spelling out the word DREAM in any theme and colour of their choice. Head on over and check it out!

What have you been up to this long weekend?

Georgie Love.

Oh my goodness. Be still my beating heart.

I stumbled across a post today introduced me to this gorgeous necklace on Georgie Love from Velveteen Jewelry Design.

Now, as you are aware, I have a slight obsession with hummingbirds at the moment. I adore the delicate brass frame and the beautiful little vintage hummingbird. How precious.

Georgie Love is being incredibly generous and is GIVING AWAY one of these gorgeous pieces, so make sure you head on over to her blog and enter! (Or not.. there's more chance for me to win! Ha!)

Returning Home.

Well, hello there. Or, Hola!

As you can see, I've decided to return to Blogger. Oh Blogger, how I have missed you. Don't get me wrong, there were aspects I liked about Wordpress, but it just didn't have the same 'community' feeling as Blogger. Not to mention the fact that I couldn't upload video or change the template setting.. that annoyed me slightly. OK, it annoyed me to no end. Which is why I'm back here.

A new blog, and a fresh start. Make sure you follow me, I'd love to get to know you!

Oh, and make sure you head on over to Danimezza's blog tomorrow, and enter my giveaway!

Challenge 42: A Film That Inspired Me...

What film has inspired you, changed you or the way you think, maybe put you on a new path?

I remember my drama teacher putting up posters of a new movie that had come out, one that was taking the film world by storm. I was in year 10, and unfortunately it was rated R so I was unable to watch it on the big screen.

As he raved about it, I wondered what all the fuss was about. 2 years later and I finally witnessed Tarantino’s artwork- Pulp Fiction.

This movie reinforced my love of film. It guided my taste in music. The soundtrack was just simply cool, and it was (and still is) played in high rotation. Al Green’s Let’s Stay Together was our wedding song.

For me, Pulp Fiction was a turning point in not only in the film world, but my own. It opened my mind and challenged the way I thought. I debated the movie for hours with my fellow uni art friends, and am now teaching media studies so I can share my love of film with my students.

11 years later, and I still think Tarantino is the King of Cool.

Polly Dolly Challenge- Farmer's Market

Danimezza

This weeks Polyvore Challenge from Danimezza is 'What would you wear to the Farmer's Market?'

Farmer's Market

I love our local Farmer's Market. It's held every fortnight, and the best part is that it's only a few kms away. I chose a cute light blue skirt, vintage tee and a crocheted vest to put over the top. The gladiator sandals and oversized sunnies funk it up a bit. I loved the crocheted bag, I thought it was super cute!

I always look for fruit that's in season, especially strawberries in the summertime. Nothing beats home grown strawberries. I always seem to come home with pumpkin, roma tomatoes and creamed honey. My only vice? Not being able to pass up this amazing popcorn that is both sweet and salty. Delish.

23 April 2010

Lovely Jeans.

If you’re like me, you hate jeans shopping. Hate it with a passion. I always end up feeling worse for wear after traipsing around store after store looking for that magical pair of jeans that fit just right.

However, last week I hit the jackpot. Big Time. I went into Sportsgirl and saw they had $20 off jeans, so thought ‘What the hell, I’ll give them a go’. I picked up a pair of supersleek jeans in snow wash and tried them on. A miracle occurred. They fit perfectly, felt great and looked flattering. Amazing. If I’d had the cash, I would have bought two pairs.

22nd April 2010

Carter & Mischa.

The weather has been glorious lately. Mid to high 20′s, sunny days with a few clouds sprinkled across the cornflower blue sky. Carter and I head outside in our front yard in the evenings where he likes to explore and touch all the new textures and objects.

He loves the smooth pebbles and rocks that surround the agave plants. He will pick one up, study it for a while, put it down gently then roll it backwards and forwards.

He’s found a new best friend in Mischa. I’m trying to teach him ‘gently, gently’ when he tries to pat Mish, as he can become quite exuberant and apply a bit too much force! However, Mish is a champ. She takes it really well, and is extremely patient with him. Carter adores Mish, and his little face lights up whenever he sees her.

Now that we’re moving into the cooler weather, I’m looking forward to the nights where we can light the Chiminea, rug up and sit outside under the stars. What are you looking forward to doing in the cooler weather?

Aprendizaje de espaƱol

Buenos Dias!

I’m setting myself a new challenge. For a few years I’ve been all talk, saying that I would like to learn a new language but never actually getting around to doing it. I’m so impressed by people who are fluent in other languages. I would love to be able to converse with people from other countries when we get the opportunity to travel overseas.

So, I’m doing something about it. I’ve decided that I would love to learn Spanish, and have downloaded all the podcast lessons here at Discover Spanish. Every time I’m in the car driving to work I have the chance to practice.

Tenga un dĆa encantador!

20th April 2010

Three For Me.

Three things that have captured my attention lately:

1. Nail Art. In my pre-Carter days, and even before I started teaching art, I used to get my nails done regularly. Mainly french tips with an occasional silver or gold glitter swept across. I gave it up after a while as the upkeep, not to mention the expense, was too much. However, I missed it. I’m a different person when my nails are done. I gesture more, tap my fingers more, and feel more confident overall. Strange, but true.

One of my best friends, Niccy, has a sister who is setting up at home to start her own nail and beauty business. She does Niccy’s nails each month, and they look fabulous. Turquoise, purple, orange, red with tiny bits of glitter.. they’re constantly changing and I love them. So, I bit the bullet, and I’ve started getting them done again too. I currently have purple french tips with silver foil to match my outfit from Saturday night (more on that later when I upload pics!). I wonder what I’ll go with next time.. maybe aqua and silver?

2. Soy Wax Melts. Now, I blathered on about these a few posts ago, so i won’t go into detail about them here. I received my melts from LimeDaisyDesign last Friday, and I’m currently burning the Vanilla & Sandalwood melts.

The verdict? Nowhere near as strong as the Ecoya wax melts, but they still smell nice. I think I might have to get a pack of the Ecoya ones to keep for special occasions.

3. Remedial Massage. I have always had trouble with my neck and shoulders. They become incredibly tight, and that ofter leads to headaches. Once again, pre-Carter, I used to get a remedial massage every few months and it seemed to keep the headaches at bay.

I went last Friday to get a relaxation massage, but halfway through the masseuse told me that my neck and shoulders had become quite bad again, so I told her to change it up and do a remedial one. Oh boy, did it hurt, and it took a couple of days for the soreness to disappear, but it feels so much better now. I need to make sure these become monthly again.

I Can't Believe You're Wearing That!

Eek. I’m in a bit of a pickle. Tomorrow night I have a 40th to go to, and the theme is ‘I can’t believe you’re wearing that!’. My lovely colleague/long lost twin Margaret lent me a fabulous shocker of a dress- a one shouldered, black rouched cocktail dress with a gold frill at the top and gold ra-ra skirt. It’s very special. I was SO excited to wear it too. However I tried it on, and it doesn’t fit. Still can’t quite suck that baby belly in enough. Dammit!

So, I’m going to have to trawl the op shops today to find something just as special. I do have a back up plan though, I’ve got a Collingwood guernsey and ugg boots to thrown on if all else fails. Deon is funny about ugg boots, he absolutely despises them. He refuses to let me leave the house and be seen in public with them!

I wonder if I can find another dress as fabulously ugly as this?

Polly Dolly Challenge- Nail Salon

Danimezza

We're at one of my favourite parts of the week again.. (I can't believe how quickly it came around!!)

This week's challenge was all about what you would wear to the nail salon. Now, it's been quite a while since I've had my nails done, as they would simply become wrecked after teaching art lessons. However, it's quite ironic as I have an appointment this Saturday to get them done. I've missed having nice nails too much!

Nail Salon

I always keep a shade of pink on my toenails. Sherbet pinks in Summer, and dusky roses in Winter. I've only ever had a pedicure once, and discovered I couldn't exactly put my boots back on afterwards, so drove home barefoot.

I don't take much with me when getting my nails done. If I had to choose a magazine, I would go with Shop Til You Drop. It's pretty much become my Bible since teaching textiles this year.

15th April 2010

Bliss.

I have found my new favourite thing.

I have a thing about scents. Certain ones I adore. Vanilla, cinnamon, cranberry and spice are my top winter scents when I’m looking for oils to burn. Mango, lemongrass and mandarin are my favourites during the warmer months.

They relax me, and whenever I walk into a store or house that has oils burning I immediately feel my stress levels lowering. My sister in law Summer always has her house smelling beautiful, and it feels peaceful the moment I walk in the door.

So anyway, I’ve been on the hunt for some new oils. I’ve been using Vanilla Spice by the body shop for a while now, but I’m finding that the scent doesn’t last long at all. When I visited my favourite store Vast Interior, the sales lady gave me an Ecoya wax melt in Vanilla to try.

I ADORE it. The smell of vanilla lasts all day. I’ve been using it for 4 days now, and it still hasn’t run out. There’s no messy mixing of oil and water. The only problem is the cost, they’re quite exxy. I decided to browse through madeit.com, and found a seller who makes melts for a fraction of the price, so I bought Gingerbread, Cranberry Marmalade, Sandlewood Vanilla and Grapefruit &Lime. The name of the store is LimeDaisyDesign. I hope they work and smell just as nice, otherwise I’ll have to go back to Ecoya and justify the expense somehow!

15th April 2010

Holidays? Not Anymore...

I feel drained.

Lots of people have asked me how my holidays have been. I normally just answer ‘fine’. But in reality? I don’t have holidays anymore. Not with a little one who gets me up anywhere between 6 and 7am, and requires constant attention through the day. He’s now truly realised who ‘mummy’ is, and I hear it repeatedly. Often while he’s pulling on my leg, begging to be picked up. Gone are the days of lounging around with my favourite TV series and Sandbar sessions. Sorry, I know I'm whinging! It's lucky I love my little one more than anything in the world! However, I’m loving being back at work two days a week. It keeps me sane, and I can actually have adult conversations.

It’s been even harder with mum gone too, but thankfully she and Lan will both be here on Wednesday! I’m counting down the hours ’til their plane touches down. Not long to go now.

Polly Dolly Challenge- Gymwear

Danimezza

Is it sad that I’ve been hanging out for another challenge all week?

Anyway, the lovely Danielle at Danimezza has set this weeks theme as Gym Wear. Quite fitting actually, as I was telling her the other day about how I desperately needed to get back to the gym!

Polly Dolly- Gym Wear

Although I normally stick to whites, greys and blacks, I do like to splash a bit of colour in. This time, I've gone for yellow. I love Capri pants, and stick to singlets or tanks when working out. I never leave home without my ipod and ipod armband, and I've discovered Gabriella Cilmi's new song 'On a Mission' is great to work out to. Hair ties are a necessity. I can't bear the thought of having my hair down while working out. And, of course, I have to throw in the Rexona and a nude lipgloss!

After taking Carter swimming today, I enrolled him in the gym's creche. It was hard, I didn't particularly want to have to do that, but with mum away so much I didn't really have a choice. He's booked in tomorrow while I do a Body Attack class... I know he'll be fine, it's more me that I'm worried about! I haven't done a class since I was 5 weeks pregnant with him!

8th April 2010

Thunderstorms.

Yesterday, I finally got the sort of day that I’d been hanging out for.
The weather has been stunning, around 27 degrees and sunny for the past couple of weeks, but I was hanging out for some rain. Any rain. Even just a sprinkle would do. I’m pretty over Summer, and now I want to drag all my winter gear out.

All morning the rain was pattering softly. I felt creative and started another painting for my store Hummingbird’s Song. Carter slept beautifully for the first time without his woombie and I felt on top of the world. We took a trip out to my favourite store, Vast Interior, and I picked up some clothes and toys for him from Target.

I was talking to the lovely Danielle from Danimezza in the afternoon when we heard the first clap of thunder. It increased rapidly, and all of a sudden it began to pour and the power went out. Poor Carter got a bit of a shock from the thunder rumbles and was pulling at me, trying to climb up my neck, sobbing the whole time. I had to hang up from Danielle, as I could barely hear her!
I took Carter outside so he could watch the rain fall. The tears stopped immediately, and he looked around curiously, reaching his little hands out to feel the tiny drops on his skin.

It was very peaceful. We waited outside and watched the rain until the power came on again.

Lovely Boots.

I have a bit of an obsession with boots. And no, not in a weird freaky way, but like I’ve said before, in a ‘they’re my fave clothing item’ way. If you’re having a bad hair/skin/mood day, boots will be your best friend. They’re always flattering. And comfy. And they keep your toes toasty warm. What more can you ask for?

I recently got a lovely tan, slouchy pair with a big buckle from mum for my birthday, and I’m living in them. However, I do want to add to my collection, so here are some that I’m eying off:

Loving the buttons on these. Even better? The price.

Super cute grey ankle boots.

Loving the wedge on these.

Hmm… which pair to get? May have to get them all!

5th April 2010

Happy Easter Everybody!

Happy Easter everyone! Hope the Easter Bunny bought you lots and lots of chocolate!

Sorry Carter, they’re not for you! Maybe in a couple of years!

3rd April 2010

Refresh.

I’ve had a bit of a change.

I’ve been dark brown/black for a few years now. I’ve never had the guts to go lighter, as a friend once told me not to as it would ruin my hair, and even a hairdresser once said that it would never suit me. But, since having Carter I’ve thought, why not? It was time for something different.

Before:

After-

I love it. I feel like a new me. I feel like I’ve stripped away the stressed, tired and unhappy Rhi, and am showing just how happy, content and relaxed I feel this year.

What do you think?

Polly Dolly Challenge- Easter

Danimezza

As you know, I’m a bit of a Polyvore fan. The lovely Danielle at Danimezza has come up with a challenge to create a set for Easter.

I’m not really a person who embraces bright colours. I love earthy, natural colours and fabrics with texture. I tend to brighten it up with a cherry lipgoss. I adore knits and boots in winter. In fact, I’m a boots fanatic. They’re my favourite item of clothing. It’s become a tradition that mum buys me a new pair of boots for my birthday every year. Flat, heeled, wedges, slouched, buckled or zipped, I don’t care. I love them all.

So, for me Easter is all about the change in season, and I get to become excited about pulling the boots out again. I also tend to link in Anzac day with Easter for some reason (maybe because they always seem to be around the school holidays) which also means my beloved footy team is playing. Gotta love the Collingwood vs Essendon blockbuster (go the Pies!).

Anyway, here’s my creation:

Easter Challenge

Ooh...New Playthings..

For someone who teaches VCE photography, I’m not really that great with actions on Photoshop. I’ve tried to play around with them before, but just found creating them to be a huge hassle. So, imagine my delight when Chantelle over at Fat.Mum.Slim blogs about custom made actions and where to find them. A few clicks later, and I was the proud owner of actions created by Petamazey. Love them. Love them. Love them.

I decided to take a few test shots of Carter deliberately under or over exposed, and apply a few actions to them. Here are my black and white examples:

Sister Time.

Hello! I had some great news a few days ago. My little sister is visiting in about a couple of weeks, and I’m so excited! She hasn’t seen Carter since he could crawl and stand up. There will be lots of sister time with TV series, tea and Anzac bikkies. My favourite way to spend my days with her. xx

30th March 2010

Sickness.

Oh blegh. Blegh, blegh, blegh. Having a cold is not fun at the best of times. However, pre-Carter I was able to be completely selfish and camp out on the couch surrounded by tissues, lozenges, honey & lemon tea with my fave DVDs playing while I napped on and off.

Now? Well, too bad. Life goes on. My poor little lion cub has a cold too, and I definitely come second. In between snuffles and wiping his runny little nose he needs lots of hugs and attention. It breaks my heart to hear him all wheezy and chocked up. I’ve got the vaporizer going for him tonight, hopefully that will help him sleep.

26th March 2010

My Precious Carter- 8 Months

My precious Carter,

Today, you are 8 months old.

You’re such an cheeky little devil. Now that you’ve discovered you can crawl, you’re zipping around here and there at the speed of light. You’ve also discovered how to pull yourself up and shuffle around the edge of the couch, trying in vein to reach the things you’re not supposed to have. You’re not too fussed about all the toys you have, you just want to get your little hands on the remotes, mobile phones and laptop!

You still adore swimming lessons, and can now crawl up onto the floating device on your own. You’re also used to ducking underwater, and can cling onto me without me helping you.

You’re such a little daddy’s boy! Every night, as soon as you hear the key in the door you’re off like a shot with the biggest grin to go and get hugs from daddy. Daddy will then feed you your tea (so far your favourite is One Pot Chicken and Apricot Rice Pudding for dessert) and then give you your bath, have a play then pop you to bed.

Bedtime has been a bit difficult this month, you went through a stage where you were waking around 8 to 10 times a night. I’m sure it was your little teeth popping through that was giving you so much difficulty!

Sweetheart, you are such a joy to be around. I love seeing your face light up when I pick you up after work, and I just love our morning snuggles.

My little lion cub, I love you past the stars xx

Hummingbird's Song- Store Open Soon

I’ve been working on creating a few paintings for kids rooms or nurseries, and I’m hoping to open an online store very soon to sell them along with my blocks. The paintings also incorporate ribbon, buttons, fabric and beading to give them more of a textured effect. The 11 x 14 inch paintings are $65, while the 8 x 10 inch paintings are $45.

Sneek peeks below:

I have absolutely loved creating these, and it’s really kick started my interest in creating artworks again. I’ve also had interest from a store to exhibit some of my other work. I have so many projects the go at the moment. It feels like I’ve found myself again!
