Escapism.

I need to answer a question I asked in a previous post. What did I think of Alice in Wonderland?

Oh.My.Lord.

What a visual feast for the eyes. As soon as the 3D glasses were on, I was hooked. I blocked out the outside world and lost myself in a version of the story I loved as a child. I wished for an invite to the tea party. I became besotted with the Cheshire cat. I didn’t want it to end.

It was a wonderful way to escape reality momentarily.

Broken Toys.

Grr. Cranky at the moment. My wonderful Digital SLR is playing up, and it's frustrating me quite a bit. It seems like the aperture is getting stuck every time I turn it on. It takes a photo (which comes out black) then says 'err'. I don't want it to say 'err'. For such an expensive toy, I would like it to work perfectly. To add insult to injury, the battery has gone flat and I've obviously put the charger in a VERY SAFE PLACE because I can't find it now.

As a result, I've missed out on getting some super cute photos of Carter. He dances now. And can stand up while holding onto the couch. And concentrates very hard while pulling every toy one by one out of his basket. He kicks back and watches his favourite show at 3.30pm every day. Adorable. Hopefully my camera will be fixed soon so I can capture these moments.

Suspending Reality.

There's times where I just feel like an escape from reality. I want to forget about normal life and fully immerse myself in someone else's story for a short while.

I'm very excited, because I finally get to do this again tonight. Deon, Summer and I are heading off to see Alice in Wonderland while my wonderful mum watches Carter for me tonight.

I've always loved the story of Alice. My first introduction to this fantasy world was with the Disney cartoon. I've since read the book, and watched the movies. One of my photography students is also inspired by this tale, and is creating a folio base upon the darker side of Alice in Wonderland.

I'm doubly excited about this movie, as I'm such a Tim Burton fan. Edward Scissorhands is my sort of fairytale. I'm really hoping that I haven't built this up in my head too much, and I won't be let down.

I'll let you know what I think.

Look How Big You've Grown!

Look at my little eggling now!

Not sure how long it's going to stay upright for, as it's definitely on a bit of a lean now! It sits on the kitchen windowsill next to the bamboo plant. I absolutely love it, and every morning I open the blind and see those bright pink flowers in the sunshine it makes me smile.

Thank you for this present Pan, it reminds me of your big smile every time I look at it. xx

Family Ties.

It's been a few weeks now since Dad made the change and become a West Coast citizen. It's hard. Really hard. I struggled with the fact that not only my little sister lived in another state, but now dad did too. I was anxious that Carter may lose the bond that he had formed so strongly with his Grandad and Aunty Pan.

However, so far it doesn't seem to be the case. I try to make sure that Carter gets to see them on skype at least once a week. His little face lights up and he tries to grab the screen whenever they appear. He laughs and babbles away to them.

I'm so proud of mum. She's doing such a good job here without dad. They still talk everyday and she's off in a few weeks to visit him. I'm very jealous as she's in Mackay with Lan at the moment. I miss them all terribly, but even though we all live in 4 different states it doesn't matter. We're still as close as ever.
