Last Tuesday I was invited to a mineral makeup party at a day spa called Visible Effects. I decided to go along because a) I felt like getting out of the house and doing something girly, b) I wanted Carter and Deon to have some daddy/son time and c) the woman who was running it also did my makeup for my wedding and I wanted to support her. I went along not expecting much at all, just to have a play, a chat with the others then head home again.
Well. After that night, I was COMPLETELY converted to mineral makeup. The stuff is brilliant. (And no, I'm not getting paid to write this!) My skin felt so smooth and the coverage was just flawless. I'd been breaking out quite a bit since having Carter, and I've been left with a few little scars which were really annoying me as I was using mountains of concealer to try and hide them. This base hid them completely, and since I've been using it, it's actually reduced the scars and they've almost gone. Magic.
Anyway, after the makeup party I decided to host one myself, and gathered a whole heap of girlfriends to come along. Deon was wonderful, and let me buy the whole starter kit and a few little extras. Thank you sweetheart!
So, I bought all the brushes, base, bronzer (which I LOVE), Illuminator (which goes underneath the eyeshadow to make the colour pop), eyeliner and two eyeshadows- a smokey one and a pearl. All for $309. Brilliant. The best thing is, it will last for AGES, and won't go off. I should have taken a photo of the end result from Tuesday night but I forgot. I'll take one grad ball night!
My precious Carter,Today, you are four months old.Well, haven't you just grown in leaps and bounds in just one month! I can't believe how much you've grown. You're not a newborn anymore, you're looking more and more like a little boy. The 'sit' game progressed to 'stand', and now it's 'stand and jump'. You love to do this, and mum has decided she needs to buy a jumper for you as her arms get so sore! The last couple of days you've been blowing raspberries while jumping, and dribbling everywhere. You can be a messy little rabbit! The most amazing thing for us this month was to see you roll over, and try to crawl. You're so determined to do this, pushing your head down and pumping your little legs madly. You're moving a few centimeters at a time, but I believe in my letter to you next month that I'll be talking about how fast you can crawl, and how I can't keep up with you! You're still talking and babbling as much as ever. It's so lovely to hear you wake up babbling in the morning, and to walk into your room to be greeted with a huge smile. It's the best way to start the day. You're still sleeping through the night, from about 8pm to 6:30am which mum and dad LOVE. Sometimes you roll on your tummy and we have to go back and pop you back on your side, but you go back to sleep very quickly! You're now in 00 or 0 clothes, perfect weight and above average height. Where oh where did you get your height from?I can't wait to see your development in the next moth. I can't believe we're heading towards the half a year mark.My little bunny, I love you past the stars xxoo
It was time for a change.I finally managed to get a hair appointment and actually keep it (I'd already made two and had to change them due to being called into work, and another time the hairdresser was sick) and I loved being able to sit back, and just chill out for a couple of hours.I ended up having quite a bit cut off, around 3 inches, and the fringe reshaped. It feels sooo much better now. Although it takes a little longer to blow dry as the curls have come back with a vengeance, it looks thicker and healthier. Very happy!
The new maxi dress has definitely come in handy too- it's been insanely hot this past week and it's the perfect thing to wear. 40 degrees in November.. what on earth is it going to be like this Summer if it's this hot now?
I'm finding it a little bit hard to blog at the moment. I feel like I don't have anything very interesting to say. My life at the moment is preoccupied with Carter, and fitting in gym sessions and a couple of days work a week. I could go on and on about Carter, but I'd probably bore people senseless.. if they were reading this. I pretty much feel like I'm just talking to myself most of the time. My blogging mojo has disappeared. I hope I find it again soon.
How did we get to November so quickly?November has also bought along a bit of a heatwave. It's been in the mid 30's for the last couple of days, and today has been a bit of a nasty one. Both hot and extremely windy. I wasn't overly concerned about how Carter would deal with it as it's cool at home, and he's pretty good at adapting to new situations, routines, etc. Speaking of adapting, we decided to take him out for the first time on Saturday night. My friend Stace invited us to her place for a Halloween movie night. Carter did beautifully, and tucked up in his bassinet in her room, where we didn't hear a peep from him until it was time to go home. Success! Definitely makes me feel more confident that we can take him to strange places, and he will still sleep beautifully. Started to feel pretty tired by the end of last week. I ended up working three days, and that combined with going to the gym and looking after Carter used up a fair bit of my energy. I took it pretty easy over the weekend, and Deon looked after Carter quite a bit on Sunday to give me a break. Although I took it easy, I still went to the gym on Saturday. I'm really motivated to keep going each week, as I'm starting to notice a difference in myself, and I'm beginning to get some good results. I can finally do up the buttons on my shorts! I'm being VERY strict on what I'm eating during the week too- Lots of chicken, salad, yogurt, muesli, nuts and multigrain muffins for breakky. Yum. I definitely look forward to take away on Friday nights though! The freakiest thing happened to me on Saturday after coming back from the gym. I was driving home, and looked right while going round a roundabout. There was a noise, I looked straight ahead and saw a woman lying in the middle of the road with just a bra and jeans on. I slammed the breaks so I didn't run over her, pulled to the side and called 000. During this time, the car ahead of me had pulled over (I thought she was hit by that particular car) and the occupants ran over, picked her up and threw her in the back seat. I had no idea WHAT was going on. Luckily the cops and ambulance came, and it was established that she had actually opened the car door and thrown herself out, hard enough to slam the signpost that she hit to break. Bizarre stuff. But anyway, it's the Melbourne tomorrow which I'm looking forward too, as it means another day with Deon at home. I'm working on Wednesday, then who knows what the week will bring after that?
