Spring Dresses

While Deon was getting his hair cut today, I decided to head to Lindcraft and have a look through their patterns, as they were having a huge sale. I wanted something casual and cute, and while looking through the Simplicity book found this:

Perfect! It looks super easy, and I love the print of the fabric. I know it's a halterneck, but I'm sure it would be easy to convert to straps if needed. Unfortunately Lindcraft have a dismal range of fabrics, so I'll head into Spotlight tomorrow. Hopefully I'll find a funky print there.
I think the belt looks gorgeous with the dress too, so I'll have to keep my eye out for something similar!

Bugs, Be Gone!

Went back to the doctors today, where she confirmed that yes indeed, I still have tonsillitis. Dammit, why is it so hard to beat this time? Argh! So, I'm back on another course of antibiotics, with a repeat prescription if necessary. We didn't discuss having them taken out, but I have another appointment with her next week so I might bring it up then.

I've had my eye on these gorgeous little shoes, but unfortunately missed out on them as the auction ended while I had my doctors appointment. I'm hoping that they have another pair in stock, and will list them soon. They are so cute!

Time to go and rescue tea. Roast chicken and vegies tonight, with apple pie for dessert. Delish...

Saturday Morning Events

Just some photos from the Friday events that turned into Saturday morning events! It was going to be an early night, but... I had too much fun dancing at O'Malleys, and didn't want to leave! Jarrod, Carlie, Deon and I went out for tea to the Indian place first, then hit the Sandbar again. After a few bevvies was LOTS of dancing.. and even Deon loosened up so much that he hit the dance floor with me!

Strike a pose Shane...

Little Post.

Well. Last night was supposed to be a quiet one.. but it didn't end up that way! Deon and I are about to head of to Dalzie's for a Grand Final BBQ, so I'll post some more when I get back.

Go the Hawks!

Friday Events.

I don't know what it is about the warm weather, it it instantly uplifts me and puts me in a great mood. The Spring holidays, for me, are polar opposites of the winter holidays. Winter makes me a hermit, wanting to hide away from the world and stay snuggled on the couch with many DVDs of TV series. Spring makes me itch to get out of the house and socialise with others over a beverage, and partake in a BBQ or two.

And speaking of socializing.. once again this afternoon was spent at the Sandbar. Today's participants: Keezy, Carlie, Shane, Mark and myself.

I think there will be a couple more sessions next week ;)

More Pondering.

At work, we have a points system, which means extra jobs are allocated 1, 2 or 3 points. This all depends on what level you are as a teacher. Graduates are given a free pass- they don't need to apply for jobs as they are expected to just concentrate on teaching. Next year, my fifth year, I'll be falling into the Accomplished category and will need to apply for a job with a 1 point rating.

Dee emailed out a list of jobs for next year, and I've been browsing through them. I think I'll go for this one:

Mentoring

Specific duties:

• To mentor a beginning teacher according to the processes outlined by VIT.
• To provide ongoing support for a beginning teacher at ISC.
• To provide induction support for beginning teachers.
• Have regular meetings with your mentoree to provide the support required.
• Undertake a professional learning session on the role of the mentor prior to beginning the mentoring partnership with the mentoree.

I like the sound of this one, and I also feel that I'll be a good support for a first year teacher. I like interacting with other colleagues, and being that I'll be in my fifth year, I think I'll be more than qualified to start handing out some advice!

Oaks Shores

I just had to post about where we are staying in Queenstown on our New Zealand Trip. The place is called Oaks Shores, and it's right on
Lake Wakatipu with the most incredible views of The Remarkables mountain range. Apparently even in Summer the mountain peaks are still snow capped.

How gorgeous does the Queenstown mall look too! It's almost a shame we're not going in Winter, but apparently the place is vibrant and buzzing over New Years. As we're arriving there on New Years Eve, I think we'll have to book ahead if we want to go out that night! It's supposed to be incredibly busy.

Happy Birthday Nic!

Today is a reason why I love the Spring holidays. It was a gorgeous 26 degrees, and it was spent in the revamped beer garden of The Sandbar with some lovely ladies. Bliss.

It was Niccy's birthday today, and I found it quite easy to buy a present for her, as she has the exact same taste as me in nearly everything. Plus, she's a domestic goddess. So, when I ventured into House and spotted this, I knew it was perfect:
It's a professional icing set with various cookie template shapes. How fun! I want one for myself!

Also, New Zealand is completely paid for, and I got a FABULOUS tax return back, twice as much as I normally get. I wish every day could be like today!!

Under 100 days!

It's all becoming real now.

I started filling out our passport applications today for our New Zealand trip in December. I'm starting to feel pretty excited about our first overseas holiday, and all the amazing things it will entail. Although every single day will be an adventure, the part I'm looking forward to is the helicopter trip to the top of a glacier. I have NEVER done anything like that before.

Under 100 days to go now!

An Early Surprise.

Had a FABULOUS surprise this morning when I went to check the mail.. my new quilt cover had arrived! Yay! Here's the bedroom before...

And after!

It's hard to tell in this photo, but the white really does give it a lift, just in time for Spring and Summer. I'm still not happy with how high the bed sits, but it's only because it's part of an ensemble, and we have nowhere to store the base of the bed. We discovered that it would have cost us more to have bought the mattress without the base, how crazy is that!?

I tried some of the lime cushions that I already have, but found that the orange worked better with the wall colour, and the metal artwork hanging above.

All in all.. very pleased!

Spring Update.

Yes, I'm still alive, the anitibiotics kicked in and I survived Spring Carnival. Yay! Still have a bit of a blocked sinus thing happening, but I'm much better than I was.

I LOVE this time of year. The Spring holidays have been great so far, and we've had a couple of sunny days in the mid 20's. Niccy's birthday is on Thursday, and I think we're going to be spending it at the Sandbar, soaking up the sunshine in the beer garden all afternoon.

After going through the Adairs website for hours, I finally ordered a gorgeous quilt cover set by Mercer and Reid.

And, the bonus is that it was marked down from $240 to $90. Excellent! I'm going to start looking for some funky lime cushions to replace the caramel ones that I currently have, to give the room more of a Spring/Summer feel.

I've also been working on Stacey and Niccy's paintings. Stacey's just need a final coat of damar varnish, and I've begun the last three of Niccy's set. I'm so pleased with how they're turning out!

No Change.

Still a bit feverish today. Killer throat and glands, and can barely talk. Dad picked up my prescription for me and got some antibiotics today, bless him. Unfortunately I have to be at work tomorrow as it's the last day of term, and our Spring carnival day. Normally, it's my favourite school day of the year (apart from the last few days of term four!) as the kids have so much fun setting up stalls and playing games, but I'm worried that I'm not going to make it through the day.

Fingers crossed...

Ick, ick, ick.

Ah.. this is not good. Why am I starting to get sick again right before the holidays? Dammit!

Spent all last night and today with a nasty painful fever, swollen glands and sore throat. Went to the doctors this morning who told me that it looks like the start of tonsilitis. Oh, PLEASE no. He's given me a script for antibiotics if I'm not getting any better by tomorrow. The only good thing though is that I miss out on parent teacher interviews, so I don't have to be at school til 8pm tonight. Excellent.

One more positive today- our bed was delivered, which to me, is VERY exciting. Now I just need to decide on the new quilt set and order one in. Lincraft and Spotlight were very disappointing, they had a pretty limited range, and no Sheridan. I wish we had Adairs here!

Catch Ups.

Wow. The weather outside today is ATROCIOUS. It's a nasty, windy, dust-filled day. Where on earth has the sunshine from Saturday gone? Come back!!

One week to go, and I'm trying to stay sane until then. I'm finding it a little unfair that out of the 12 sessions we have to teach, I've got 11 (plus yard and library duty) but hey, that's the way the cards have fallen.

Poor Deon is quite sick today, he still hasn't recovered from the flu/fever thing he's had for a few days. I don't think going out Saturday night did him any favours, but I appreciate him big time for coming to my reunion with me.

We took advantage of Harvey Norman's 50 month interest free deal, and bought a brand new POSH mattress ensemble set with new millennium pillows (very cool- they mold to your body shape) and a chocolate valance to go around the base. I'm currently on the hunt for a new quilt set, and have my eye on these:

All from the Sheridan Range

Lincraft has a new store opening today, so I might race down after work today and have a look through their bedding range, as Spotlight doesn't stock the designs above. However, if they don't have them either, I might ask Lan to pick me up one from Adairs.

Deja Vu.

Last night was our 10 year school reunion.. it's a bit scary that so much time has passed already! I was actually a little bit apprehensive, and felt a bit out of it when I first got there. However, when I found my two best friends from school, Linda and Dave, all was good and it felt like time hadn't passed.

I decided to wear my silk Bardot dress and some tights and heels, and I think I looked OK! My feet were killing by the end of the night, and I was happy to be kicking them off a 2am.

It was funny, sooo many people didn't recognise me without the light brown curly hair. Keezy said that a lot of people had to ask him whether it was Deon or myself who was in our year level, haha!
All dressed up

Lindy Loo.. my best mate from VCE

Hmm... who is this suspect creature?

On the Wish List

Since losing my Ipod last year, I have missed it a lot. There was no need for CD's, as it would plug into my car and I'd have a choice of any song that suited my mood on any particular day, and it was great to have while walking Nikita. I'm going to try and save up for another one, and I've got my eye of this little one here.

Pleasant Surprise

I was having a browse through our wedding photographer's site, when I noticed that they had showcased some of our wedding photos, which was lovely to see. Deon and I really have to get cracking and finalise our album. I can't believe we've left it so long.. but we have been incredibly busy, and it's hard to get a time where Excitations aren't working as well!

I've stolen some of the ones off their website (naughty!).. looking at them makes me smile.

Apologies.

Sorry, I know there haven't been many updates of late.. haven't really been in the right headspace for this. Like the Leunig cartoon, I can see all the good things around me.. but can't quite reach them yet. Things are slowly getting better though. Bear with me, and I'll be back soon. xxoo

Having a tough week. Today was the biggest struggle so far. Feeling mentally and physically exhausted. Need a big hug.

Giving In.

Well, I finally bit the bullet and thought I'd partake in the whole Stephanie Meyer phenomenon. Yesterday after work I picked up a copy of Twilight and settled back to enjoy all things vampire and supernatural. A few people who have similar taste to me (yes, including you Danielle!) recommended it, so I figured they couldn't be wrong.

I haven't been disappointed as yet, and it's nice escapism after a long day. I am quite partial to vampire themed entertainment though, I love Buffy and even found the Blade series a lot of fun to watch.

Deon became interested when I told him him about the novel, and asked me to look up the trailer of the movie (which is released in America in December). He's also into all things vampire. What I love about the trailer is that it seemed to have a touch of Tim Burton about it too.. one of my favourite directors. Let me know what you think.
