Back to the Decals...

While browsing on Esty, I discovered a few more wall decals that I love. I'd really like to put one in the study on the next house, or even in the living area (not sure how Deon would go with that one!)

Some faves:

Yes, I have Another Idea...

My newest obsession- Leather bed heads. Stitched, chocolate coloured leather bed heads that create a gorgeous contrast with soft fabrics. I have an idea in my head that I would like to become reality which involves replacing the bed I have now, as it really doesn't match the decor of the house.

I'm sure Deon could (with the help of his dad) make up the base of the bed, and I would only have to buy the headboard. We already have the slats, mattress, etc. I wonder if I can sweet talk him into doing that for me.

Progress On the Home

Just a little preview of the sort of house Deon and I are looking at building. It's going to be a complete eco home, camouflaging in with the surroundings, and built out of materials such as timber cladding, iron and steel. I desperately wanted an atrium in our house, but Deon was quick to extinguish that, saying atrium's were a builders nightmare, and only attracted damp and termites. OK. So, to compromise, the whole back end of the house (on the left) will be glass, overlooking a garden made out of a 'dry river bed' and spiky native grasses. Should be awesome.

To see some ideas of what our house will look like on the outside, check out Modscape- Homes for Sustainable Living

I'm looking forward to doing the inside.. lots of white to keep it bright with some feature walls in latte or coffee, and lots of accents in lime and aubergine using furniture and artwork. Porter Davis actually has some really good ideas for interior design.

Low Profile

Well, I sure did keep a low profile this weekend, and I think it was exactly what I needed. I ended up going to the footy fundraiser on Thursday night, and it turned out to be a bigger that I expected so it was nice to hide away from the world for a couple of days.

I cleaned the house from top to bottom (which actually gave me an immense amount of satisfaction- a little sad I know) and started Niccy's paintings. I've even tackled a bit of the study and managed to move things around a bit so it's not like trying to complete an obstacle course to get to the filing cabinet.

I bought some more small square frames for my stripy paintings... although I'm one short. I'm hoping some more will come in soon! It's a bit scary though, because I actually have to cut them to size, and I'm a bit worried I'll stuff them up somehow. I might get Deon's opinion before I cut.. since once it's done I can't go back.

OK, enough rambling from me. I have a roast chicken and some vegies that need rescuing...

Creeping Towards the End

I've been winging it quite a bit this week. You'd think that work would be easy now that all assessment tasks and reports are done, but unfortunately no. We have to find things to keep kids occupied for the next week and a bit. They don't particularly care either, as they know reports are done and they don't have to work as hard. To be honest, I don't really blame them. They're as over it as we are!

I'm supposed to go to a footy fundraiser tonight... but I don't know if I have the energy yet. I'll be keeping a low profile this weekend, that's for sure. Movies and pizza is all I'm looking forward to.

Thank God next term is only 10 weeks, this 12 week stuff is a killer.

Stace's Stuff

Here's an update of the incomplete paintings for Stacey's set. I've been mixing in a wax medium for this lot, giving them some extra chunkiness and shine. Still not sure what colour to paint the white bits yet.. maybe I'll just leave them white.

Once again, the photos don't show the rich colour and shine.. but ah well!

Just a Catch Up

While my Year 9 Photo class are finishing off some work, I thought I'd quickly do a recap of my weekend. Unfortunately, it wasn't hugely exciting, as it mainly consisted of writing reports, but there was some escape time involved. Friday was spent paying for our New Zealand flights (yesssss!) and then going out for tea that night with the crew. Got slightly messy on Tequila shots (blame Keezy), but needed that release after a pretty awful week.

I've now completed about 2 coats on Stacey's set, and I really have to take some photos to put on here. Slightly retro this time, very different from my last abstract set. Think turquoiuse, hot pink and orange.

Speaking of the abstract set, I've decided to frame them. They look fabulous in stark white square frames, much better than just on a canvas block. I was going to sell them, and still might, but now I've become attatched to them and think they'll look great in the next place!

Next thing on the list- start Niccy's set.

I have the interschool girl's footy to watch tonight, but I'll get my butt into gear and take some photos to upload tomorrow night.

Focus.

Inspired by another blog, I've decided to create some '6 month' resolutions, and some goals to push me in the right direction. By the end of the year, I hope to:
  • Created an Etsy store
  • Create my Pink Vanilla business and produce work for local stores
  • Finish and sell our current unit
  • Organise a studio to work in (in other words- clean out that study!)
  • Be living in, or closed to finished our next 'eco-friendly place'
  • Take a trip overseas
  • Become fit and toned by sticking a a regular exercise program
Quite a list there, but I think it covers nearly every aspect of my life. I'll have to give an update each month so I can show you where I'm at...

Love the Long Weekend

Well, I have decided that EVERY weekend should be a long weekend. It's the most relaxed and chilled I've been in a looong time. I spent Saturday doing the base coats of Stace's paintings (yes, the canvases finally came in!) and... the exciting part... Deon and I booked our New Zealand holiday! And, even more exciting, Deon suggested we upgrade our Fox Glacier hike around the base of the glacier to a helicopter ride to the top! How awesome is that!!!

So, we're starting off in Christchurch, then heading to Fox Glacier, and ending in Queenstown. Should be an unforgettable trip.

Sunday was spent playing with mum's new puppy, Cobby. She's a big beautiful bundle of black fluff who has the sweetest personality. I'll have to get a photo of her so I can post it here!

The great thing is... I have another long weekend coming up this weekend too!

Fabulous.

The title sums up the movie, and the evening. We dressed up, wore our heels and drank Cosmopolitans in the theater. A very special night with the girls!

A Little Grumble.

I've been checking the post office every morning, and my canvases have still not shown. I emailed the company last week, and received nothing.. so out of frustration I called them today, only to be told they had 'accidentally ordered the wrong size and had to wait for another shipment'. Apparently I will be receiving them tomorrow. Pretty slack really.. wouldn't have killed them to send an email. I have my fingers crossed that a little slip asking me to pick up a parcel will be in my postbox tomorrow, just in time for the long weekend.

So Excited!

Today I finally got my hands on tickets to the premier of Sex and The City, and I am soooo excited! The Writer's Festival had booked the whole first showing out as a fundraiser, but I managed to grab some of the last few. The night includes a Cosmopolitan, movie ticket and entry to the after party held at The Brewery. The girls and I are planning on dressing up and generally having a fabulous time... ah, I can't even do any work at the moment, I'm that excited!

4 Weeks 'til Holidays

Bit of a catch up post really. The weekend just gone was pretty hectic, and I didn't really spend that much time on the computer. Deon and I went to Dalzie's on Friday night for a 'P.E party' and that became quite messy... (And no, it wasn't me!). Although we played a drinking game, I remained completely sober as I always seemed to pick up the cards that didn't require drinking. It was a strange night indeed.

Saturday night was spent going out for tea with Dave, Keezy and Ali. We chose the Setts as all meals were half price.. excellent. I seriously don't know why we don't go to there more often- I love being able to curl up on their couches next to the fire and have a drink. Much prefer that to freezing in the Sandbar.

Sunday night Niccy and Stace came over where I made Lasagna and we chilled and watched Big Brother... a very nice way to end the weekend.

Today my job is to find tickets for all us girls to see Sex in the City on Thursday night. Ah, I can't wait! The Writer's Festival has booked the whole first sitting out, but Ali is giving me a number so I can buy tickets from them. $20 for drinks, a ticket and an after party.. can't go wrong really. Now I just have to decide what to wear!!
